Box size: 6 ½”x5 ½”x3” Bentwood Box

Prep:

Sand and seal with JS Sealer. Sand lightly and tack.
Base the outside of the box with Black.
Let dry.

Transfer the pattern lines with light graphite.

Face:

Mix a medium value flesh with Titan. White + Gold Ox.
Mix enough to base in the face several coats, and keep a little extra for blending shades and highlights later.
Trace on the features; nose, lips, eyes, brows. Go over the tracing lines with thinned (water) Gold Oxide. This locks down your face features and allows you to see them during shading and highlighting.
Since you have your base flesh mixed and in reserve; you can brush mix your shade as you need it.
Shade mix: Base flesh mix + more Gold Oxide + a touch of Brilliant Violet. It is helpful to brush Retarder over the face before blending.
Side load a small filbert brush with the shade color and blend under the hairline and down the right side of the face.
Shade under the jaw line and chin, down the right side of the neck.
You may need a slightly smaller filbert to shade next to the nose, under the nose, under the lower lip and across the lid. Pinch out the brush and blend.
Let dry.
Retard the face again.
Pick up a touch of Gold Oxide and blend into the warmer areas of the neck and forehead.
While you have the Gold Oxide in the brush; base in the hair.
Face Highlights:
Blend Retarder into the face and neck.
Dress the brush in the base flesh mix. Lighten with Titanium White and blend into the forehead, down the bridge of the nose, the tip of the nose, along the upper lip, the top of the cheekbones and the chin. Lighten a spot on the neck just under the chin area. Pinch out the brush and blend.
You may have to shade and highlight a couple of times till you get the right value changes.
